BIO

DIANA ANAID
The death of her mother when she was a baby, and the abuse that she endured as a child, has created in Australian singer/songwriter Diana Anaid an infectious will to survive and a passionate honesty that infuses her songs and live performances.

Diana sent her self made debut album to popular radio station Triple J in 1997, kick starting her career with a bang with the national hit “I Go Off”.

Too edgy for folk and too rock for pop, the hippie chick from Nimbin known for her ferocious self taught guitar style and in-your-face lyrics was included in the line up for the 1999 Vans Warped punk music festival, rocking out solo with her Maton guitar on the main stage between Suicidal Tendencies and Less Than Jake.

Maton guitars endorsed Diana in 1999.

With the release of 1999’s “I Don’t Think I’m Pregnant” any last ascensions that Diana was a folk act were thrown to the curb as songs such as “Perfect Family” “Socially Defunct” and “Piece Of Me” flooded the airwaves.

A poet of merit, Diana has had sold out song writing workshops at Woodford, The Adelaide International Guitar Festival and the International Folk Alliance in Memphis, she is mother to Stone and has juggled recording and touring commitments with homework duties and sporting events for the whole of her career. An activist and a vegan, Diana has headlined Sydney’s Cruelty free festival several times.

With a constantly evolving sound, 2004 saw Diana’s first international release Beautiful Obscene garner quite a bit of attention, with it’s lead out single “Last Thing” reaching #1 on the internet radio charts and crossing Diana into mainstream radio at home in Australia.

Mesmerising solo or with her band, Diana has performed at the Falls Festival, Woodford and Big Day Out, and has supported the likes of Cake, The Eels and Joe Cocker as well as Aussies Pete Murray, The Whitlams and Xavier Rudd.

Based in the USA during 2004 and 2005, Diana has toured there 5 times since, performing in legendary venues The House Of Blues, The Knitting Factory and The Viper Room, cementing her fan base, which consisted of a listening audience of over 40 million.

Performing on major breakfast TV shows both in Australia and the US, Diana has also been featured in Rolling Stone and Guitar Player Magazine and has been described as “Cooler than Ani DiFranco” (VILLAGE VOICE, NEW YORK)

Apart from a throat operation here or there, Diana Anaid has been on a steady rise since her introduction to the industry, garnering 5 ARIA nominations, endorsements from Rode, PreSonus and Line6 and starting her own record label in 2007, Forola Music.

Presently writing songs for her fifth studio album, Diana has an upcoming tour of the USA later in 2012 as well as her first foray into Canada.
